Before You Move an RV in Dallas, Check Where It Can Stay
A fifth wheel may be sitting behind a storage gate, while a motorhome is parked in a residential driveway. Moving either vehicle to make it easier to photograph, show, or sell can create a new problem if the destination is not an authorized parking location.
Dallas has separate municipal provisions for residential outside storage, trailer parking, and vehicles displayed for sale on public streets. Those rules are worth considering before relocating an RV solely for a potential buyer.
QuickRVBuyer evaluates RV purchase inquiries from Dallas and throughout the United States. Start with the vehicle’s actual location, current condition, and ownership situation. You do not have to move it simply to submit an inquiry. Whether a purchase is possible depends on the individual RV.
A Dallas RV Sale Should Start With a Parking Plan
A Driveway Is Not Automatic Approval for Long-Term RV Storage
Dallas Development Code Section 51A-4.217 regulates accessory outside storage. For certain recreational vehicles and trailers, storage in the area between a street and the main building can qualify for an exception when the parking surface meets applicable standards and the vehicle cannot reasonably be stored behind the street-facing building facade.
Other conditions and exceptions can apply. A driveway’s existence alone does not establish that a particular RV may be stored there indefinitely.
If your RV is kept at home, identify its actual position and whether gates, parked vehicles, or other obstacles limit access.
A Storage Facility Has Its Own Release Requirements
For an RV in a managed storage lot, first establish who can authorize collection. Ask about gate hours, access arrangements, outstanding storage charges, and whether a large vehicle or transport equipment can enter and turn around.
You can describe the RV for an evaluation while it remains at the facility. A possible sale does not cancel the storage operator’s access or release requirements.
Do Not Use a Public Street as an RV Sales Lot
Dallas City Code Section 28-80 specifically restricts parking trailers and certain other vehicles on public streets and other public places, with stated exceptions.
Section 28-84 separately prohibits leaving an unattended vehicle or other private property parked in specified public places for more than 24 continuous hours. That limit does not give every trailer permission to park there for a shorter period.
Under Section 28-85, a vehicle may not be parked on a street or highway for the purpose of displaying it for sale.
Before moving an RV out of storage for photographs or a showing, confirm that the new location is lawful and suitable for the vehicle.

RV Types That Can Be Submitted for Review
QuickRVBuyer primarily considers recreational vehicles offered by private owners. Dealership inquiries are also welcome for evaluation. The five groups below require different information, and inclusion in a category does not guarantee a purchase offer.
Class A Motorhomes
A large Class A coach may require careful access planning even when it is mechanically sound. Provide its approximate dimensions, mileage, engine and transmission condition, and whether it can be driven safely. Report slide-out, generator, or living-system issues separately.
Class B Camper Vans
For a camper van, chassis condition and the camper conversion both matter. Identify the van’s mileage, installed electrical and plumbing equipment, any major modifications, and whether the conversion is complete. Describe anything that has not been tested recently.
Class C Motorhomes
A Class C has automotive components and a separate living structure. Explain its driving condition, roof and cab-over condition, and known appliance problems. If the cab-over area or roof was repaired after a leak or storm, provide the repair history when available.
Travel Trailers and Fifth Wheels
For a towable RV, report its approximate weight or model information, length, tires, axles, brakes, and hitch arrangement. A fifth wheel’s kingpin and landing gear are especially relevant when the trailer has remained stationary and no suitable tow vehicle is currently available.
Toy Haulers, Pop-Up Campers, and Truck Campers
Identify the feature that makes the RV different from a conventional trailer. This may be a toy-hauler ramp and cargo floor, a folding camper’s lifting mechanism, or a truck camper’s mounting equipment. Explain whether those components operate and how the unit is currently supported.
Separate North Texas Exposure From Actual RV Damage
The Dallas-Fort Worth region experiences hot summers and severe thunderstorms that can bring hail, strong winds, and heavy rain. Those conditions are a reason to examine an RV’s history, not proof that a particular vehicle has been damaged.
For a useful evaluation, distinguish damage you can see, repairs you know were completed, and systems whose condition remains uncertain.
Exterior Damage and Previous Hail Repairs
If the RV was struck by hail, describe the affected panels, skylights, vents, air-conditioning covers, or other equipment. Photos of remaining damage and records of replaced parts can help explain its present condition.
Evidence of Water Entry
A roof seam that was repaired is different from an active leak. Identify any soft flooring, ceiling discoloration, wall damage, or moisture in storage compartments. If the origin or extent of water intrusion is unknown, say so.
Systems That Have Not Been Tested Recently
An RV stored outdoors for an extended period may have uncertain tire, battery, air-conditioning, or seal condition. Report when these systems were last checked. An untested component should not be represented as working simply because it worked during the last trip.
A Motorhome or Trailer That Cannot Move Normally
Tell us whether a motorhome starts, rolls, steers, and brakes safely. For a trailer, identify damaged tires, wheels, axles, brakes, or hitch equipment. Movement problems can affect the transportation plan, and an unsafe RV should not be driven or towed just to prepare for a sale.
What Helps Us Evaluate Your Dallas RV
You can start with the facts already available to you. The purpose of the inquiry is to identify the RV and understand what further review may be necessary.
Identify the Exact RV
Include its type, year, manufacturer, model, and approximate length. For motorhomes, add mileage and fuel type when known. If there are multiple similar floor plans, provide the specific model designation.
Explain Operation and Condition
Describe major working systems, known defects, and untested equipment. Report significant repairs and any condition that would prevent normal driving or towing.
Use the RV’s Physical ZIP Code
The parking location may differ from your home or mailing address. Give the ZIP code where the RV sits, along with any relevant storage, driveway, or property-access restrictions.
Disclose Ownership Complications Early
Explain whether you have the title, whether a lender has an interest, and whether other recorded owners must participate. These details may affect a later transaction even when the RV itself is in good condition.
Photographs That Answer Practical Questions
Recent exterior and interior photos help show the RV as it currently sits. Add close-up images of known damage, the dashboard mileage on a motorhome, or the hitch and landing gear on a trailer when relevant.
If access is unusually tight, a safe photograph of the gate or parking position may also be useful. Never enter an unsafe area or move a damaged vehicle just to obtain an image.
From Dallas RV Inquiry to a Possible Purchase
Step 1 – Tell Us What You Own
Submit the year, make, model, physical location, and condition details through the inquiry form. This starts an individual purchase evaluation, not a guaranteed quote or binding sale.
Step 2 – Answer Any Follow-Up Questions
Additional information may be needed about repairs, ownership, equipment, or access. The questions depend on the RV rather than a fixed checklist for every vehicle.
Step 3 – Consider the Proposed Terms
If QuickRVBuyer makes an offer, review the amount and any conditions before deciding. You are not required to accept it.
Step 4 – Arrange the Agreed Transaction
If both parties proceed, confirm ownership documents, payment terms, and collection requirements. Free towing is included with an agreed purchase. The actual arrangements depend on the vehicle and its location.

Prepare the Parking Location for a Possible Handover
1. Identify Who Controls Access
If the RV is in a storage facility, on leased property, or behind a shared gate, find out who can authorize entry and release. Confirm the applicable access rules before setting collection arrangements.
2. Report What the RV Can Safely Do
A motorhome may run but have unsafe brakes. A fifth wheel may have working landing gear but damaged tires. Describe these conditions separately so the appropriate transportation needs can be assessed.
3. Check the Space Around the Vehicle
Measure or estimate the RV’s length, width, and height. Note low branches, overhead wiring, gate openings, tight turns, slopes, and any parked vehicles that block movement. The pickup location needs to accommodate the agreed collection method.
4. Prepare for Transfer of Possession
Gather the available keys, title information, and lender details. Determine which accessories are included in the sale and remove personal belongings before the agreed handover.
Free towing is part of an agreed QuickRVBuyer purchase. It is not an unconditional removal service or a promise that every parking location can be accessed.
Texas RV Paperwork: The Essentials for Dallas Sellers
Texas establishes vehicle title requirements. Dallas does not have a separate municipal RV title-transfer process. Documentation varies with vehicle type, prior title status, recorded ownership, and financing.
A Titled RV Needs Proper Transfer Documents
For a Texas-titled RV, the seller generally provides an appropriately signed title and a completed Form 130-U showing the required transaction information.
Check the recorded owner names and any lien information. The required signatures and supporting documents should be established before the RV changes hands.
Not Every Texas Trailer Has the Same Title Requirement
A manufactured trailer weighing more than 4,000 pounds gross weight must be titled in Texas. For one at or below 4,000 pounds, title requirements depend on its history.
A qualifying trailer that has not been titled may have different acceptable ownership evidence from one that already has a Texas title. Check the applicable records rather than assuming a bill of sale always replaces a certificate of title.
Missing Titles and Outstanding Loans
Texas provides a certified-copy procedure for qualifying lost or destroyed titles using Form VTR-34. Recorded owners must meet the applicable requirements, and an existing recorded lien may require lender involvement or an appropriate release.
You can disclose a missing title or loan during the inquiry, but a purchase cannot bypass lawful ownership requirements.
After a Sale, Complete the Seller’s Notification
Texas DMV advises sellers to file a Vehicle Transfer Notification within 30 days of the sale. This is separate from the buyer’s title application and helps protect the seller against certain later toll and parking liabilities.
For a motorhome associated with an NTTA TollTag account, also remove or deactivate the applicable vehicle and tag information. An account change is separate from notifying Texas DMV.

What About Motorhome Inspections?
Texas no longer requires routine safety inspections for noncommercial vehicles. Qualifying gasoline-powered vehicles in Dallas and other designated emissions counties may still require emissions testing for registration. The specific registration requirements depend on the vehicle and county.
Do not treat that as a universal pre-sale emissions test for every motorhome. Towable trailers do not have a propulsion engine requiring an engine-emissions test.
For broader ownership guidance, see the Texas RV buying page.
Dallas City Limits and the RV’s Actual Location
Dallas extends into Dallas, Collin, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties. The greater Dallas-Fort Worth region includes separate municipalities with their own local rules.
For an inquiry, the RV’s physical location is more useful than a broad Metroplex description.
North and Northeast Dallas
Owners in Far North Dallas, Lake Highlands, and surrounding city neighborhoods can describe RVs kept on residential or other authorized properties. The useful details are the specific storage address, parking arrangement, and available access.
Oak Cliff, South Dallas, and Other City Neighborhoods
The same evaluation process applies to RVs located in Oak Cliff, South Dallas, Pleasant Grove, and other Dallas communities. A motorhome at a home and a trailer behind a commercial gate may have very different collection requirements.
Nearby Cities and Different Local Rules
Garland, Richardson, Irving, Mesquite, Plano, Carrollton, and Grand Prairie are separate municipalities. Their local parking and property rules should not be treated as Dallas ordinances.
QuickRVBuyer considers purchase inquiries throughout Texas and nationwide. Use the actual city and ZIP code where your RV is parked.

Compare the Selling Routes Before You Decide
A Private Listing May Be Worth the Work
A well-maintained RV may attract private buyers willing to consider your asking price. That route usually means handling inquiries, arranging lawful showings, discussing condition, and managing payment and paperwork yourself.
Consignment shifts some selling responsibilities to another business but may involve fees or contractual commitments. A dealer trade-in may be convenient when purchasing a replacement RV.
A Direct Purchase Is Another Option
Requesting an individual purchase evaluation can be useful when you want to understand whether a buyer is interested before spending money on repairs, additional storage, or transporting the RV for showings.
Compare any proposed offer with the vehicle’s condition, realistic selling expenses, and your other choices. A direct purchase is not automatically the highest-price option.
Questions About Selling an RV in Dallas
Do I have to bring my RV home from storage before requesting an evaluation?
No. Begin with the storage ZIP code and information about the RV. If a purchase is later agreed upon, facility access and release arrangements can be discussed.
Can I move my travel trailer onto a Dallas street for buyer showings?
Do not assume that is permitted. Dallas Section 28-80 restricts parking trailers in specified public places, subject to exceptions. Section 28-85 also prohibits parking a vehicle on a street or highway for the purpose of displaying it for sale.
Does Dallas’s 24-hour parking rule apply to every RV?
Section 28-84 restricts leaving unattended vehicles or other private property in specified public places for more than 24 continuous hours. Separate vehicle restrictions and posted parking rules may apply sooner. It is not general permission to park any RV for 24 hours.
Can I keep an RV in the front driveway of my Dallas home?
Possibly, depending on the property and applicable rules. Dallas Section 51A-4.217 includes conditions for certain RVs and trailers on approved parking surfaces in street-facing areas. The vehicle’s location and whether it could reasonably be stored behind the building matter.
What if I live in Dallas but the RV is stored in Garland or Richardson?
Provide the actual storage city and ZIP code. Both Garland and Richardson are independent municipalities, so Dallas parking ordinances do not automatically govern those properties.
Will you evaluate an RV with hail damage or a repaired roof?
You may submit it for individual consideration. Describe the known damage, completed repairs, and any continuing problems. The vehicle’s current condition determines what further review may be necessary.
What if my motorhome starts but cannot be driven safely?
Explain what prevents safe operation. A running engine does not establish that the brakes, steering, tires, or other systems are suitable for road travel. Do not drive an unsafe motorhome to prepare it for a sale.
What paperwork is needed for a lightweight travel trailer in Texas?
It depends on the trailer’s gross weight and title history. Texas allows different documentation for certain manufactured trailers at or below 4,000 pounds, while previously titled trailers require appropriate title handling. Check Texas DMV guidance for the specific trailer.
Can I submit an RV if I cannot find its title or still owe money?
You can explain the situation during an inquiry. Completing a purchase still requires lawful ownership documentation and resolution of applicable lienholder interests.
Must a Dallas motorhome pass an emissions test before it can be sold?
Not every motorhome requires one. Texas emissions requirements apply to qualifying vehicles in specified counties for registration purposes. A universal pre-sale motorhome emissions requirement should not be assumed.
Do I need to update Texas DMV and my TollTag account after the sale?
For an applicable Texas vehicle transfer, file the Vehicle Transfer Notification within 30 days. If the RV is associated with an NTTA account, update or deactivate its vehicle and TollTag information separately.
Is an offer guaranteed, and will towing be free?
Submitting an inquiry does not guarantee an offer or require you to sell. Free towing is included if a QuickRVBuyer purchase is agreed upon, with collection arrangements determined for that transaction.
